Here are a few snippets from our Marae recounts.
The bus halted to a stop and the doors swung open. Slowly everyone exited the bus and we were all standing on a concrete pavement waiting for what laid ahead of us. - Olive
The warm breeze passes once and a while. Everyone starts to get in order and yelling their group number. I look up and I see someone calling to us and I can see the narrow, steep hill ahead of us. We slowly move towards her, boys following the girls. After the short walk that felt like day’s we seat on the wooden and crystal hard seat. My bones start to shiver rapidly. Then people start to stand up and move like a slimy slug in a line. I knew straight away that we were about to do the hongi. - Luke
